History of Ghana
Kingdoms Dogomba and Mamprusi in the north which have reached the blossoming in XII-XIII centuries were the very first known states in territory of modern Ghana. The Portugueses who have based in 1482 trading settlement Elmina were the first Europeans in Ghana. Since then this territory was called Gold Coast. In XVI century other countries of Europe have become interested in territory. 1631y. – creation of the first British trading station. In 1642 Dutches have superseded therefrom Portugueses. At the same time on the east from colonized territory there was an empire Ashanti which dominated in region to the XVIII-th century middle. Dutches were not unique colonizers of Ghana. Britain and Denmark as have constructed the forts along coast, but Great Britain has appeared more strongly and by the end of a XVIII-th century Englishmen dominated in region. The Danish and Dutch forts have been bought in 1850 and 1871 and in 1874 Ghana became a colony of Great Britain.1896y. – Englishmen have grasped northern territories of Ghana, having put under the control all country.1939 – 1945 – in days of II world war served in the British army to 70 thousand natives of Ghana.On March, 6th, 1957 Ghana, the first of the African countries, has proclaimed independence. The republic status has been accepted on July, 1st, 1960. With 1966 on 1992 Ghana was shaken by numerous military coup d’etats, in 1979 and the head of revolutions was 1981 lieutenant Dzherri Roulings who became the president of the country. In 1992 Roulings has resolved activity of political parties and has won the first free presidential election in November same Ghana is a member of the United Nations and all specialised agencies of this organisation, the Organization of the African unity.
