Here they have encountered persistent resistance of local residents.1491 – Portugueses, together with governors of Congo, have suppressed the popular uprising directed against Christianization of the country. Positions of Portugueses have considerably become stronger.XVIII – XIX centuries – on territory of the country there were many small independent princedoms. 1876 – the beginning of penetration into Congo Belgians.
1885 – the European countries recognised the power of Belgian king Leopold II over huge territory of a river basin of Congo.1908 – the country became a colony of Belgium – “the Belgian Congo”.On June, 30th 1960 – declaration of independent republic. Movement of separatists in a province of Katanga and civil war with active intervention of the Belgian armies.1963 – the termination of military operations, a withdrawal of troops of Belgium. The country has saved the territorial integrity.1965– a military coup d’etat in the country. The president – general Mobutu.1971 – the new name of the state – Zaire.1997 – the next revolution in the country and the next name of the country – Democratic Republic Congo.
