History of Canada
It is considered that the first Europeans who have stepped into the Canadian earth (island Newfoundland) the Icelandic Vikings about 1000 AD However they could not colonize the country. The second wave of Europeans has arrived to the period between 1480 and 1540 years. In 1497 some expeditions on island Newfoundland have begun the British claims on the Canadian territory. In 30 and 40th years of XVI century the French seafarer Jacque Cartier has made some expeditions on the river of St. Lavrentija and declared these earths belonging to France.1605. – the first French settlement in Canada (Port-rojal).1608ã. – building Quebec which becomes the centre “New France”.Within all XVI century Great Britain and France not so strongly competed for possession Canada because of internal problems. However in XVII-XVIII centuries rivalry has sharply become aggravated, and in 1763 under the Parisian contract New France has taken over Great Britain. On July, 1st, 1867 Canada has acquired the right to form own government, without leaving structure of British Empire. The country has actually received independence and has accepted the name Dominion Canada. First into federation did not enter island Newfoundland and Prince Edward. In modern borders Canada has developed in the seventies a XIX-th century, the island Newfoundland was a part of the country in 1949. The country is a member of the United Nations and all specialised agencies of this organisation, the NATO and OATS.
