East Timor
East Timor — the state in southeast Asia, occupying east part of island Timor, a small enclave on its northwest party and nearby island Atauro. It is washed by Banda sea of Pacific ocean and Timor sea Indian. A relief along coast — flat, in the north passing in low plateau, the island centre — mountainous, with the highest point in 2963 metres (mountain Ramelau). On territory of the country the set of the small rivers proceeds; large lakes are not present.East Timor the state is called because of an arrangement in the east of island Timor. In Malayan language “Timor” also means “east” as is in the east of archipelago.
That is, strictly speaking, the state it is possible to name «East East». Also the state is known as Timor-Leshti.East Timor — “the youngest” state in the world. Being opened by Portugueses in the beginning of XVI century (all nearest islands were Dutch), it was their colony, one of the poorest, till November, 28th, 1975, however in some days after the independence announcement the Indonesian armies have intruded in the country. Definitive (at present) East Timor has received independence only on May, 20th, 2002, after intervention of peacekeeping forces of the United Nations and political pressure upon Indonesia which has as a result agreed to refuse the claims.
