Mingachevir hydroelectric power plant (HPP Mingachevir) - hydroelectric power plant in Azerbaijan, the Kura River, near the town Mingachevir. The largest hydropower plant in the Caucasus.
The decision to build hydroelectric Minchechevir was taken by the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR in July 1945. Mingachevir HPS was based for 9 years and was commissioned in 1954 [1] a year later was put into operation less powerful Varvara hydroelectric power station, located at 14 meters downstream, and which is a regulator of water transmitted Mingachevir HPS [2]. Together they form Kurinskii cascade of hydroelectric power plants.
